Carmenita Middle School's ZAP Program

How does ZAP work?

ZAP RULES

When a student has been ZAPPED, this means that the teacher sees great potential in the student and is offering them the opportunity to make up assignments for full or partial credit for this week only.

THEREFORE, if you have been zapped this week, please encourage your son or daughter to complete the assignment(s) by Thursday of this week.

If they do not complete the assignment and submit it to their teacher by Thursday, then they must stay after school on Friday from 1:30/1:35 pm until 2:10/2:15 pm, which will give them 40-minutes to finish the assignment. If the student has been cleared that they have completed and submitted the assignment, then the student does not need to stay after school on Friday.

SUGGESTIONS for Cougars

Carmenita believes in all of its students and their potential for excellence in their individual and unique abilities. Your child matters to us! Here are some tips for students by our Dean Audrey Rios to help get back on track:

  1. Start with your most recent missing assignments of 1-2 weeks old since your teachers are likely to accept these.
  2. If you have D’s, start with submitting assignments for your highest D. This will bring you success quickly.
  3. Break down your assignments into manageable chunks by working on two back-work assignments per day on top of your daily work. Over time, these will add up.
  4. Before making up assignments that are a few weeks old, discuss with your teacher about whether or not they will accept these.

NOTE TO PARENTS

We understand that your child is growing up and taking on more responsibilities in middle school. Nonetheless, they still need your check-ins and help. Middle School is a huge transition time with lockers and classes with various teachers. Even a quick 5-minute daily check-in to ask them how they are doing and if they need any help can make a huge difference. We appreciate your support as we encourage our young Cougars to achieve their best!
